The power of protein
There is more to protein than just eating enough. Protein makeup every single messenger in your body. Your hormones, your immune system regulators, your enzymes, even your brain chemicals. Proteins are also what form the substance of the body, including your skin, muscles, hair, bones, and the connective tissues that holds all of your organs together and prevent muscle wasting. The trick is we need the right kinds of protein or you will become weak, frail and diseased. In short you will age faster.
Are you getting enough?
Decreased body protein causes immune impairment, decreased organ function muscle wasting, bone loss, brain and nervous system disorders, delayed healing, decreased cardiovascular fitness, lowered hormone levels and much more. Now you are probably wondering what I am going on about, but this I find very interesting if you bear with me a little longer.
The right balance of proteins
One of the most critical functions of every cell is the synthesis of proteins. Your diet is important because it supplies amino acids. Amino acids are building blocks your cells use to make the proteins you need. Of the 20 amino acids your body needs, you have to get only eight in your diet. You can make the other twelve. The eight you need to get in your diet are called Essential Amino Acids as you can not make these. We have to eat the right balance of these aminos. It is not enough to just eat proteins that contain the eight essential aminos.
Let’s say you own a bicycle shop and to make a bike you need one seat, two pedals, one handlebar, and two wheels. If you receive seven seats, eight pedals, four handle bars, and two wheels how many bikes can you make? In this case you are limited by how many wheels you have.
In order to make proteins, the cells not only need to have a supply of eight essential amino acids, but they also need to have the right balance.
It is not enough just to eat an adequate amount of the right kind of protein. We also have to break the protein down into amino acids and digest it and in order to do that we need stomach acid which a lot of people are deficient in
So as you can see, amino acids are very important, but usually they are not checked in most blood tests as it is thought in our lifestyle people will be getting enough protein, but it is a fairly new discovery about the balance of amino acids.
If you are not feeling well and tests have shown up nothing ask your doctor to check your amino acid balance
